Self-promotion is actually an amazingly personal thing. What works for your pal who sells widgets may be totally wrong for your business. And that’s what’s missing from a lot of marketing information out there today.

You run a unique business that you put together with sweat, blood and pieces of your soul. So why should you market it like all those other business that may have nothing to do with yours?

How I Built My Business to Six Figures

In the first few years of my web-based business, I didn’t make much money at all. Then, in 2003, I got serious.

I started really studying marketing, creating more products, and setting up systems according to the experts. Things picked up a bit and I began grossing mid-five figures. Which still wasn’t quite enough to live on after expenses.

Then one day about nine months later, I had an epiphany. As I sat there staring at my screen, wondering which of the 537 marketing tasks on my to-do list to tackle first, I got an idea. Instead of picking randomly, I sat down cross legged on the floor and meditated on the question. And all sorts of clear ‘marching orders’ began pouring through me.

It was as if I’d pushed the magic button and now knew exactly what to do. I leapt up from that meditation, instantly inspired, and set to work … and basically, I’ve never looked back.

And I now have a 6-figure business which affords me a very comfortable living.

Yet, the best thing about all of this hasn’t been the great results which are plenty sweet! What I really love is that I no longer feel like I’m alone in the marketing process. I don’t have to have all the answers all the time – and be uber-writer, uber-coach AND uber-marketer!
