Branding Clinic

Are you a coach struggling to get known in a world of sound-alike coaches?

Or are you trying (unsuccessfully) to sell your self-help book to jaded publishing executives who are convinced there are no new ideas?

Perhaps you've carved out your niche - and even come up with a name for it - but you're just not getting the response you need from your target market.

Chances are you've got brand trouble.

Your brand is your ticket to a thriving world of publicity, e-commerce, publishing and more. Yet, if you're brand isn't quite right - or worse, if it doesn't even exist - those opportunities just won't be there.

Your brand is the crystal clear phrase or name that summarizes just what you do. Like Molly Gordon's "Authentic Promotion", Jennifer Louden's "Comfort Queen" and the late Thomas Leonard's "Coachville."

A great brand gets your target audience's attention and captures their imagination. It's also what makes it easy for search engines, literary agencies, freelance journalists, and lots of eager clients to find you.

A great brand really can make the difference between a life of anonymity and being the hot new author, website guru, or personality that gets the columns, TV appearances and speaking gigs.

Now, we all know the teeming marketplace of self-help products and services is jam-packed. That's why I've put together a ninety-minute teleclass I call The Branding Clinic.

I'll spend the first half hour discussing the art of branding with you, and all the various pieces that go into the process. Then it's your turn to get some hands-on help. Tell me about your brand - or idea for a possible brand - and I will evaluate it. I'll give you honest, marketing-savvy feedback, and point you towards any improvements you can make.

When you register, you'll also get an instant branding e-workbook, plus a few key homework assignments. My goal is to get you thinking 'brand' as soon as you register.

And believe me, if you work in a vacuum, this could be input that's crucial to your success.

Now you may be wondering why I feel am I qualified teach this work.

Well, the first eighteen years of my professional career were spent in advertising as a Madison Avenue copywriter. I spent a significant amount of that time in agencies like Young & Rubicam, developing brand names and phrases for clients including Chesebrough-Ponds, Colgate Palmolive, HBO, Wonder Bread, IKEA, The New York Times… and more. And, of course, I created national campaigns for many such brands that helped me understand just why some brands soar while other brands fail.

It also doesn't hurt that since 1999 I've published two successful self-help books, several ezines, and created myriad products and websites.

So, yeah. I've got marketing chops. Also, I know the self-help world pretty much cold. (Just about the entire time I was in advertising I kept wondering exactly why I was doing that particular line of work. Now I understand: it was so I can help you develop your brand.)

Here's what the Branding Clinic and its Field Guidm "Building the Brand That is You" can do for you:

  • Teach you branding basics for use in any brand you wish to establish
  • Give you a sense of how brands are developed by the pros
  • Give you tools for setting up your own R&D group
  • Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of your particular brand, of the one you're thinking of developing
  • Learn the importance of branding to your website … and why that even matters
  • Learn to create a brand that has lots of ancillary uses - in an ezine, for example, or product line
  • Help you decide if you use your name as your brand. (I LOVE to talk about this)

The teleclass is strictly limited to 20 people, so I can have time to work with each of you individually during the call. (When the class fills up, we will develop a waiting list. That waiting list will then have priority registration for the next session of The Branding Clinic, roughly one month later.)

By the way, one of the biggest reasons to do this work before you write your book or create your website is that it can save you huge amounts of time and money. However, if you're already out there with a brand, there may be subtle tweaks we can suggest, or ways to spin it into something beyond what you've already established.

Now should you choose to join us, expect a bit of homework before the call. I'll want you to do some research about your product or service, the marketplace, and who, exactly, you want to reach. (You can really accumulate serious support for yourself if you do an online keyword search, too, but that's strictly optional.) This homework is not critical, of course, and you can certainly attend the call without it; but it will increase the effectiveness of your participation.

If you can't make the class at the last minute … or if you want a recording of it, worry not! We'll make an Audio Podium recording of it available, by phone, as soon as the class ends. Instructions for how to access it will arrive in your welcome email upon registration. This recording will be available for roughly one month after the class.

I'm looking forward to really digging into your brand with you, and helping you get just the right phrase of set of words that will help you get launched.

What's the power of a few small words? Well… everything, when their job is to describe you.

Join us for what I know will be a terrific call.
